The human offshoot faction known as the Eloi use genetic engineering in order to raise their intelligence, reaction times, and life span.
In battle, the lowest ranks of Eloi infantry are known as the Established; those who have grown old enough for their genetically enhanced anatomy to have stabilized into their intended final form, and to have mastered the control of their physical bodies.
